The answer

Fatimah Al-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away six months after the death of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and she was the first of his household to join him. As for what has been narrated concerning the description of her death from Salma, the mother of Abu Rafi’, it is not authentic. Ibn Al-Jawzi mentioned it in Al-Mawdu’at (Fabricated Hadith), and Ibn Hazm and Ibn Kathir declared it weak.

Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) had requested that Ali ibn Abi Talib and Asma bint Umays wash her body. This was narrated by Al-Shafi'i and others, and Ibn Hajar and Al-Shawkani deemed it good (hasan). The Companions unanimously agreed to this and did not object, contrary to the unauthentic objection attributed to Ibn Mas’ud. This is the view of the majority of scholars, and it is more correct than the opinion of the Hanafis and Ahmad, who held that it is not permissible due to the dissolution of the marital bond.
