What is meant by uncontrolled flatulence during prayer, what is its ruling, and how can it be distinguished from ordinary flatulence?

Linguistically, infirāṭ (انفلات) and iflāt (إفلات) mean to break free from something suddenly. What the jurists intend by "infilāṭ al-rīḥ" (uncontrolled emission of gas) is its continuous discharge and the inability to control it. Whoever is characterized by this condition, such that they cannot find time for ablution and prayer, is considered afflicted with infilāṭ al-rīḥ and is given the ruling of urinary incontinence (salas al-bawl). As for someone who is healthy and passes gas in a normal manner, such that they still have time for purification and prayer, their ablution is invalidated by the emission of gas, whether it occurs before or during prayer, and whether intentionally or unintentionally.
