What should a sick wife do who is vomiting blood, has been prohibited from fasting by doctors, and cannot endure hunger and thirst? Should she fast or break her fast in Ramadan?
If the wife is still sick and a trustworthy doctor has prohibited her from fasting, then she must break her fast, due to Allah Almighty's saying: "But whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] then [he must fast] an equal number of other days," and "and [He] has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty," and "And We charge not any soul save to its capacity."
If the illness is hoped to be cured, then she must make up the days after recovery, due to Allah Almighty's saying: "then [he must fast] an equal number of other days."
If the illness is not hoped to be cured, then she must pay a fidyah by feeding one poor person for each day.
