What is the ruling on fumigating with herbs and reciting specific surahs upon them for the treatment of the evil eye, envy, and jinn possession?

There is no Shari (Islamic legal) or medical evidence to prove that fumigating with harmal (Peganum harmala) or frankincense is a cure for anything. Harmal has been mentioned in weak and fabricated hadiths that are not authentic. Furthermore, treatment through fumigation is common among sorcerers and charlatans, and it is a practice of Christians and Sabians, which necessitates caution from a Muslim. Incense in Islam is a perfume and has no relation to expelling devils or healing. Rather, devils are expelled by theing of Allah, reciting the Quran, and seeking refuge (with Allah).
