Is it permissible to have intercourse with one's wife during the period when the bleeding stops, if the postpartum bleeding (nifas) ceases after twenty days, then returns every three or four days, bearing in mind that the bleeding stops completely after forty-five days?

If a woman in postpartum bleeding (nifas) becomes pure before forty days, and then the blood returns before the forty-day period ends, it is considered nifas blood. She should abstain from prayer and fasting, and her husband should not approach her. When the bleeding stops, she should perform ghusl (ritual bath), pray, and fast. This is the view of Ata and Al-Sha'bi, and one of the two narrations from Ahmad.
