Is it permissible to name baby girls after their mothers as a blessing and a remembrance of them, and is this considered an act of honoring one's parents?

Naming children after grandparents and parents has a detailed explanation: If the father requests it, complying is a perfection of filial piety. However, it is not obligatory if one deviates from what is better, unless there is an excuse. Ibn Uthaymeen was asked about naming children after parents if the father considered it an act of piety. He replied that it is better to choose names beloved to Allah, but if the father insists and considers not naming the child after him as disobedience, then there is no harm in naming the child after him, provided the name is permissible. As for cases where the father does not request it, or if he is deceased, naming the child after him indicates love and affection, and one is rewarded for the intention, but it is not an act of filial piety confirmed by religious law. Al-Fawzan said that it indicates love and connection. Al-Mushayqih said that it is not mentioned in religious texts, but it may lead to remembering parents and supplicating for them. If this benefit results from it, then naming is preferable. The Prophet's naming his son Ibrahim is evidence for the desirability of naming children after prophets.
