What is the ruling on exaggerating in demanding the dowry and burdening the husband beyond his capacity, which leads to young men abstaining from marriage?

The Sharia has previously come with the facilitation of dowries, which is in the interest of both spouses, confirming the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: “The best marriage is the easiest.” Scholars have discussed the harms of excessive dowries, among them Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, who clarified that reducing the dowry is a divinely commanded act, that burdening the husband with what is difficult for him is disliked, and that extravagance causes numerous harms, including:

Many women remaining unmarried. Hindering young men from lawful marriage. Guardians preventing their daughters from marrying suitable men under the pretext of high dowries. The spread of abominations due to the difficulty of marriage. Causing psychological illnesses for young men. Sowing animosity in the husband’s heart towards his wife due to financial burdens.

He emphasized that averting harms takes precedence over achieving benefits, and that the story narrated about a woman objecting to Umar ibn al-Khattab regarding the setting of dowries is not valid for argumentation due to its weak chain of transmission, and that it was not narrated by any other Companion.
