Is arrangement obligatory in the expiation for ẓihār? Is there still emancipation of a slave nowadays? And what should one do if he has intercourse with or fondles his wife during the two-month fast for the expiation of ẓihār?

The expiation for ẓihār must be sequential. It is not permissible to move to the next stage except after being unable to perform the preceding one. There are no slaves or bondservants in our time. If the husband fasts for two consecutive months or expiates by other than fasting, it is permissible for him to enjoy his wife and have intercourse with her. However, it is not permissible for him to enjoy her in any form of intimacy before the completion of the expiation, due to Allah's saying: "before they touch each other."
