Are funds taken from the manager by stratagem, in exchange for what she unjustly deducted, considered unlawful? What about food and stolen items that were taken surreptitiously? And how can one atone for these actions after repenting from them?

An employee must adhere to the work contract, based on Allah’s Almighty saying: "O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts." He is not held accountable for anything damaged under his care without negligence or transgression. The employer must fulfill the work contract and deliver the full wage. If the employer denies the worker’s right and the worker cannot openly claim his right, he may take only what is due to him, without excess. Therefore, the questioner must return the tools and meals she took in excess of her right to the restaurant owner and act based on her best judgment if she does not know the exact amount.
