Is it permissible for someone to be led in prayer by a person who has already been preceded in the prayer, and would he thereby attain the reward of congregational prayer?
It was previously mentioned in Fatwa no. 42545 that there is a difference of opinion regarding the validity of following a latecomer (masbuq) who caught up with one or more rak'ahs. The conclusion was that prayer behind him is valid and the virtue of congregational prayer is attained thereby. Nevertheless, it is preferable not to pray behind a latecomer, to avoid the اختلاف (disagreement).
