What is to be done if the family insists on refusing marriage after fornication has occurred?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Adultery is among the gravest and most heinous sins. Allah Almighty has forbidden it, and severe warnings have been issued for those who commit it, as stated in His words: "And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever does that will meet a penalty. The punishment will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated. Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous deeds; for them Allah will change their evil deeds into good ones. And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful." One must repent to Allah Almighty from this vile crime. It is not permissible to marry an adulteress except after sincere repentance from both of them, and after the adulteress has cleared her womb by one menstrual cycle. If her guardian refuses the marriage, then there is no option but to leave her and seek a woman of religion and good character.
