The answer

There are two scenarios for a loan taken from a bank:

First: If it is a benevolent loan (Qard Hasan) without interest, then there is no harm in it.

Second: If it is with interest, this is forbidden usury (riba) and one of the major sins. A severe warning concerning it has been mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, such as the words of Allah Almighty: "O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of riba, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may have your principal – [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged." And the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Riba has seventy-three doors, the easiest of which is like a man marrying his mother." And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, cursed the one who consumes riba, the one who feeds it, its scribe, and its two witnesses.

If the loan was usurious, then the borrower must repent to Allah. If it is possible for him to repay only the principal without the interest, then he must do so. If they compel him to pay the interest, then he should pay it, and the bank bears its sin. There is no obligation to repay the money immediately if the bank permits a delay.
