Is naming a daughter "Dalia" – after knowing that its meaning is grapevine or red flower – a sin?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

As long as the name does not contain any Sharia-prohibited elements, there is no objection to naming with it. Naming with tree names was known during the era of the Companions, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not disapprove of it, such as Samurah ibn Jundub and Talhah ibn Ubaydillah. It is preferable to use Arabic names, as scholars dislike speaking in foreign languages without necessity.
