What is the ruling on women wearing circular gold jewelry?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible for women to wear gold, whether it is in the form of rings or not, due to the generality of Allah's statement: ﴿Or is it one who is brought up among ornaments﴾ (Surat Az-Zukhruf/18), and due to what was narrated from Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him: "Indeed, these two are forbidden to the males of my Ummah and permissible for their females." The scholars of the Salaf have unanimously agreed on the permissibility of women wearing gold. The wearing of jewelry by women has been widespread since the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Companions until our present day, without any objection. Among the hadiths indicating the permissibility of gold for women are: the hadith where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked a woman about the zakat for two thick gold bracelets belonging to her daughter and did not object to her wearing them; the hadith where he, peace and blessings be upon him, gave a gold ring to his daughter Umamah; and the hadith of Umm Salama, may Allah be pleased with her, concerning her wearing gold bracelets. As for the hadiths whose apparent meaning prohibits women from wearing gold, they are anomalous and unsound because they contradict the more authentic hadiths, and it is not possible to reconcile them or determine their historical context.
