Is it permissible, in Islamic law, to force a wife into full marital intimacy before consummation of the marriage? And would she be sinful if she does not respond to the commands of a husband who abuses her family, doubts her, prevents her from working and going out, knowing that he exploits her financially and has not prepared the marital home?
If the marriage contract has been concluded, you have become a wife, and it is permissible for the husband to enjoy conjugal rights. However, you are permitted to withhold yourself until he pays the advance dowry and provides suitable marital accommodation. Do not accede to his request before the accommodation is provided, as this will encourage him to expedite the consummation and protect you from the consequences of an early pregnancy. We do not advise you to leave your job if it is permissible and it was not stipulated that you leave it. Pay attention to your husband's religiosity and character; his threat of betrayal and insults to your family indicate a deficiency in his faith and intellect. If he is negligent in prayer, advise him; otherwise, seek separation. If it becomes clear that he is manipulative, not serious about preparing the accommodation, and is abusive towards you and your family, we advise you to separate from him, even through Khul'. Discuss the matter with your family and seek Allah's guidance (istikharah), as their opinion is often closer to what is right.
