Is it permissible, in Islamic law, to keep a wife who has confessed to adultery, claiming she was subjected to sorcery, or must she be divorced? What is the religious ruling on her situation? And is it permissible for her to seek revenge on the man and his wife who caused this?
If the wife repents of what she committed, or if she was coerced, then we do not advise divorcing her. However, if she insists on sinning, then we advise separating from her. The sorcerer and his wife can be prosecuted and their case brought before the judiciary. Going to soothsayers is forbidden, and whoever goes to a soothsayer and believes him has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him.
