The Witr prayer is a confirmed according to the majority of scholars. The evidence for its non-obligation is the of Talhah ibn Ubaydullah, which clarifies that the obligatory prayers are only the five. The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded and encouraged the Witr prayer, and therefore, it should be maintained whether one is resident or traveling. Whoever intentionally abandons Witr is considered a bad person by Imam Ahmad. However, whoever prays Witr on some days and misses it on others is not held accountable, but it is recommended to maintain it. It is also prescribed for him to pray in the daytime what he missed, in pairs (shaf'an).
