Is it recommended in Islam for a man to show affection to his wife during her menstruation?

The Shari'ah has enjoined kindness to one's wife, especially during her menstrual period. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to show affection to his wives while they were menstruating. He would drink from the spot where Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, placed her mouth while she was menstruating, and he would recline in her lap and recite the Quran. Islam came in opposition to what the Jews used to do, who would not eat with or have intercourse with a menstruating woman in their homes. Islam permitted everything with a menstruating woman except intercourse.
