What is the authenticity of the the Hadith: "Forgive the stumbles of those of standing," and does it contradict the principle of equality and justice in the Qur'an?

The hadith "Overlook the lapses of people of dignity, except in the case of prescribed penalties (hudud)" is a hasan (good) hadith due to its multiple chains of narration. Its meaning is the desirability of refraining from holding people of integrity and good character accountable if they commit a lapse or a minor error that was uncharacteristic of them, as long as it does not constitute one of the hudud (prescribed penalties) that reaches the ruler. "People of dignity" (dhawi al-hay'at) are those of high standing, prestige, and honor who are known for goodness. They should not be rushed into punishment, and their lapses should be overlooked, except in cases of hudud, because hudud do not differentiate between the noble and the humble, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, those before you were destroyed because when a person of high standing among them stole, they would leave him, but if a weak person among them stole, they would inflict the prescribed punishment upon him. By Allah, if Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, were to steal, I would cut off her hand." This hadith does not contradict the principle of equality and justice in Islam; rather, it refers to the removal of accountability for an error that does not incur a hadd punishment, if it is committed by someone unaccustomed to such errors, and if no harm results from overlooking it.
