A husband must care for his wife and child and provide for them. Whoever falls short in this is sinful. His denial of the paternity of his child, born on his bed after such a long period, is impermissible. It is recommended to advise the husband and remind him of his duty. If he does not respond, he should be asked to divorce her. Otherwise, his matter should be referred to the competent authorities. The child is not considered an orphan as long as his father is alive, and orphanhood alone is not a justification for giving zakat (definition) unless it falls under one of its eight categories. Zakat is permissible for this child if his father refrains from supporting him and he has no wealth. Sponsoring the sister and her son and being kind to them are among the best acts of obedience.
