What is the ruling on marrying a righteous girl to a young man who does not pray and commits major sins? And is it permissible to propose to a girl for him?

The scholars differ concerning the one who abandons prayer out of laziness and negligence, holding two opinions: either he is a Muslim, dissolute, and sinful (the opinion of the majority), or he is a disbeliever with major disbelief (the preferred opinion on this website). This is a recognized matter of scholarly disagreement.

The sister should not strive to marry off her brother who abandons prayer, because his matter oscillates between disbelief that expels one from the faith and grave فسوق (dissoluteness). If he is not entirely abandoning prayer, then the rectitude of his condition and that of the one he proposes to should be considered. It is not permissible to deceive someone who is unaware of his condition.

However, if he chooses someone who suits him and is content with his condition, then the family's involvement in an honorary capacity is easier, especially if there is hope for the rectification of his condition. He should continue to be advised with wisdom and good admonition.
