What should be done regarding a female dog and her puppies that were brought for guarding but were unsuccessful, and she is suffering from urinary retention and may die, and her daughter has a problem with her leg, knowing that it is difficult to separate them to avoid them suffering from depression, and no one has been found to take them together for guarding or livestock, and they do not understand guarding?

It is not permissible to keep dogs in homes except for guarding, hunting, or farming, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever acquires a dog, except a dog for herding, hunting, or farming, a large measure of his reward will be deducted every day."

If the dog is sick and neither she nor her offspring are suitable for guarding, you are not obligated to keep her or her offspring. Rather, it is obligatory to remove them.

It is permissible to treat both permissible and non-permissible dogs, because they possess a soul, and "there is a reward in every living liver."
