Is it permissible to inform a colleague that one is reciting half of the Qur'an for him with the intention of relieving his distress, and will he have a bad impression?

Reading the Quran with the intention of alleviating the distress of others has no basis in Islamic law. However, if you recite the Quran as an act of worship and then ask Allah to remove the distress of an afflicted person, this is a permissible form of intercession (tawassul). It is stated in the Hadith: "Recite the Quran and ask Allah by it before there come a people who ask people by it." A woman's conversation with a non-mahram man is permissible when there is a need and there is no fear of temptation. However, it is not advisable to inform the man that you have recited the Quran with the intention of alleviating his distress, nor to speak with him without a need.
