The legitimate standard for choosing a spouse is religious commitment and character. This is indicated by the : "If someone whose religious commitment and character you approve comes to you, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and great corruption." And his saying, "even if he has little wealth" means: even if he has little money or lacks compatibility in lineage or status.
