Is it considered a loss of modesty for a committed young woman to reply to a message from a young man who proposed to her online, after they exchanged basic information for the purpose of initial acquaintance?

Beware of being drawn into relationships with unknown individuals online, for marriage has its known paths. A wise woman does not allow a man to toy with her emotions. Young people are advised to fear Allah and beware of His wrath. They are also advised to turn to Allah to facilitate a righteous spouse, and there is no blame upon a woman for offering herself to a known man of religion.
