Is it permissible for a husband to ask his wife to leave her bedroom door open so that his mother – who searches her belongings and closes her own private room – does not get upset, and to give her the choice between that or taking her belongings to her family's house?

It is good for a husband to be keen on honoring his mother, but it is not permissible for his honoring her to come at the expense of his wife by infringing upon any of her rights or harming her. The wife has a right to an independent life and a private dwelling, and the bedroom is a place for her privacy. It is her right to close its door, and the husband does not have the right to rebuke or abuse her if she refuses to leave the room open. The husband should seek wisdom in resolving issues between his family and his wife, and maintain his relationship with both of them.
