Should a husband be patient with his wife who refuses to commit to religious observance, cares only for worldly matters, refuses to correct her hijab except after completing her studies, and whose family interferes in their lives, or should he separate from her amicably?
The husband should be patient with his wife and pray for her righteousness, and follow the legitimate steps in addressing defiance (nushuz). If the wife does not respond and abandons the legitimate , then it is recommended to divorce her. It should be noted that the innate love of this world is not blameworthy unless it causes one to forget the Afterlife, and that the wife's mother is not considered a unless there is a reason that necessitates it. Good companionship should prevail among in-laws, and if the husband provides an independent dwelling for his wife, she is obligated to reside with him. The husband should choose a wife of religious commitment and good character and seek Allah's guidance (istikharah).
