The question

Is the husband obligated to pay the dowry agreed upon in the contract solely in Syrian pounds, or is he required to pay its equivalent in purchasing power at the time of marriage due to the collapse of the Syrian currency's value, in order to absolve himself without being unjust to himself?

The answer

The wife's dower (sadaq) is a debt owed by the husband that must be repaid in Syrian Pounds. The change in currency value does not necessitate altering the repayment from the currency itself to its equivalent value. However, it is preferable to add to the amount given the change in currency value.
