Is the wife sinful if she fears consummation, and seven months have passed since her marriage without her husband having consummated it with her?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
After the marriage contract, consummation is a right for both spouses. Delaying consummation has two scenarios: either with the husband's consent, in which case there is no objection, or without his consent, which is impermissible because it is a procrastination in fulfilling his right and could lead to fear instead of resolving it. It may also weaken affection between the spouses and lead to divorce. This period is very long and is not acceptable Islamically or customarily. This fear must be overcome, and the natural desire of both husband and wife must be met. You may need to visit a psychiatrist.
