The question

What is the ruling of Sharia on a husband who proceeds with marriage while aware of his sexual dysfunction, unwilling to seek treatment, denying his illness, preventing his wife from leaving after she informs him of her desire to tell her family, and then bars her from entering the home by installing an iron door? What is the advice in this situation?

The answer

If the wife is harmed by her husband's illness and his inability to provide for her chastity, she has the right to seek divorce to avert harm. The husband must engage in marital relations with his wife in a befitting manner, as this is one of her most emphasized rights. If the husband refuses to provide for her chastity or to divorce her, she may refer her case to the ruler. It is not permissible for a woman to leave her house without her husband's permission, except in exceptional circumstances. It is advisable to involve righteous people to persuade the husband to seek treatment and to be patient with him. If the treatment proves ineffective or he refuses it, there is no objection to seeking a divorce. If a divorce occurs, the husband must give the wife her rights, including the upfront and deferred dowry and all other entitlements.
