What is the ruling concerning the fasting of a Muslim who traveled to France for study and was compelled to undertake strenuous work to cover living expenses, and was consequently unable to fast, despite intending to return after graduation?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If a Muslim breaks their fast in due to strenuous work that makes fasting impossible, there is no sin upon them, but they must make up the days they missed. However, if they break their fast without necessity, or if they could have combined work and fasting, they have committed a sin and must make up the days and repent. It is not permissible to travel to lands of evil deeds unless there is an urgent necessity.
