It is permissible for the pilgrim to cover himself with blankets during the state of , but it is not permissible for him to cover his head by consensus, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prohibition of it. However, if he is compelled to cover his head due to extreme cold, it is permissible for him to do so with a (expiation), which is: slaughtering a sheep in Mecca, or fasting for three days, or giving three saa' of food to six poor people in Mecca as charity.
