It is permissible for the pilgrim to wear two ihrams for warmth and other purposes. He may also cover himself with something other than his . However, it is not permissible for him to cover his head, by consensus, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prohibition of it, and the reasoning behind it is that the prohibition of covering the head is because the pilgrim remains in his state of ihram. If it becomes difficult for him not to cover his head due to severe cold, he may cover it, and he must offer a : sacrificing a sheep, or fasting for three days, or giving three saa' of food in charity to the poor of the . As for carrying sewn garments, there is no issue with it; the prohibited act is wearing them in the usual manner.
