Is the marriage of a man who did not regularly perform prayers until the age of thirty-four, and committed abominations such as abortion and breaking fast in Ramadan, then married at thirty-six, valid? And what are the implications for the prayers and fasting he intentionally missed?
Whoever has transgressed against himself with sins must repent with sincere repentance and increase in righteous deeds. His marriage is valid, whether it occurred before or after his repentance. He must make up for the prayers he intentionally missed and the fasts he broke in . He also owes expiation for sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan by fasting two consecutive months for each day; if he is unable, then by feeding sixty poor people. Some scholars are of the opinion that expiation is only obligatory for those who invalidated their fast by intercourse. If he is unable to ascertain the number, he must make an effort to determine it and make up what clears his conscience.
