If a sick person pays the (expiatory feeding) for the days they missed fasting due to an illness from which there is no hope of recovery, then their obligation is discharged, and they are not required to make up (the fasts) according to many scholars. However, if they did not pay the fidyah, or if their illness is one from which recovery is hoped, then they are obligated to make up the fasts. It is not a condition that the make-up fasts be consecutive; rather, it is permissible to separate them.
