What must a wife do who suffers from low blood pressure, which prevents her from fasting? Can she pay a sum of money to feed the poor? Is it permissible for her to direct this money to an Islamic charitable organization that provides food and aid to Islamic countries affected by wars?

If the illness that prevents one from fasting is temporary and recovery is hoped for, then the missed fasts must be made up after recovery. However, if it is chronic and recovery is not expected, then one must feed a poor person for each day, the amount being half a Sa' of the staple food of the country, which is approximately one and a half kilograms. This feeding must be given to the poor, and it is permissible to appoint someone to distribute it in another country if the poor are not available [locally] or if the need is greater there.
