What is the ruling on practicing the profession of medical massage during Ramadan?

Therapeutic massage during the daytime in Ramadan (definition) does not invalidate the fast of either the masseur or the recipient. However, certain Sharia (definition) guidelines must be observed, including: it is impermissible for men to massage women or vice-versa; it is impermissible to massage the awrah (private parts) except out of medical necessity; it is impermissible to undress and expose the awrah, rather only the limb intended for massage should be exposed; and it is impermissible for women to go to massage centers if it can be done at home. As for massage intended for invigoration and pleasure, it is impermissible.
