Is general anesthesia considered among the things that break the fast, and is it measured against sleep?

Scholars have issued a fatwa (definition) that anesthesia does not invalidate the fast because it is neither food nor drink. This applies to both general and local anesthesia, unless the patient is given nourishing fluids. However, if a fasting person remains unconscious throughout the day due to anesthesia and does not wake up, their fast is not valid, according to the soundest opinion among the majority of jurists.
