What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding making up for the days on which masturbation was practiced during the daytime in Ramadan over several years, and can they be made up for after Ramadan?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Masturbation during the daytime in is a grave sin and an act that breaks the fast, necessitating a make-up fast (qada'). If the make-up fast cannot be performed before the next Ramadan, it remains a debt upon one's conscience. In addition to the make-up fast, an expiation (kaffara) is required: feeding one poor person for each day, which is approximately half a sa' of rice. If the delay in making up the fast recurs for several years without a valid excuse, the expiation does not multiply; rather, only one expiation is required for each day.
