How does one make up for the days of Ramadan that a person invalidated by masturbation after repenting? Is a 60-day expiation required for them, or merely making up for one day? And must they be fasted consecutively or not?

Whoever invalidates their fast in Ramadan (definition) by means other than sexual intercourse (such as masturbation, eating, or drinking) is obligated to repent and to make up the number of days they invalidated. This making up can be consecutive or non-consecutive, and this is the view of the majority of scholars. The Malikis, however, hold that the major expiation (kaffarah (definition) kubra) is also obligatory along with making up the fast. The preponderant view is that of the majority of scholars, but it is advisable to make up the fast immediately and consecutively if the breaking of the fast was without a valid excuse.
