Birr al-Walidayn

Birr al-Walidayn is honoring and dutifully treating one's parents, a duty the Qur'an places right alongside the command to worship God alone. It includes speech, financial support where needed, and care in old age. Fatwas on the subject often address its limits when a parent's instruction conflicts with a religious obligation.
