Is bidding farewell permissible, and what is its form during the Farewell Circumambulation (Tawaf al-Wada') in Hajj?
The Farewell is obligatory for the pilgrim upon returning to his country, and failure to perform it necessitates a compensatory sacrifice (dam). After performing the circumambulation and two rak'ahs, it is recommended for the one bidding farewell to stand at the Multazam (the area between the Corner and the Door) and press his chest and face against it, supplicating for whatever good he desires in this world and the Hereafter. This is in emulation of the Prophet's actions, as mentioned by Ibn Qudamah, Al-Nawawi, and Mujahid. Despite the weakness of some narrations regarding the virtues of the Multazam, scholars are lenient concerning weak hadiths related to the virtues of deeds.
