What should someone do who has entered into the state of ihram for Hajj but missed the appointed time due to an excuse, and is a make-up (qada') obligatory upon him according to the Shafi'i school of thought?

If someone has entered into a state of ihram (definition) for Hajj but is unable to perform it due to illness or similar reasons: if they had stipulated at the beginning of their ihram by saying, "O Allah, my place of release is where You detain me," or similar words, then they are permitted to exit ihram and return to their family, and there is no penalty upon them. However, if they did not stipulate this condition, then according to the Shafi'is, they are not permitted to exit ihram due to illness; rather, they must be patient until they recover. If Hajj is missed, they should exit ihram with an 'Umrah (definition), along with the obligation to perform Hajj later as a make-up.
