Are the Prophetic Hadiths: "Indeed, ill omen is in three: the horse, the woman, and the dwelling," and "When one of you acquires a woman or a servant or a camel, let him place his hand on her forehead and then say: O Allah, I ask You for her goodness and the goodness of what You have created her upon," authentic? And is the inclusion of woman with servant and animal in the Hadiths considered an insult to her?

These hadiths do not equate women with servants and animals; whoever understands them as such has erred.

The first hadith (definition) indicates that if there is ill omen, it is in those three, including women.

The second hadith commands us to ask Allah for the best that a person can benefit from, whether it be a woman or anything else. This form of aggregation does not imply equality. Allah has grouped together the superior and the inferior, as He combined angels, inanimate objects, and beasts in His statement: "Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and [all] creatures, and many of the people?" (Al-Hajj: 18). This does not necessitate equality.

The scholars have mentioned that the commonality among these three things is their frequent companionship with their owner. Ibn Battal, quoting Al-Muhallab, said: "So He informed them that what afflicts them of ill omen, for those who adhere to it, is only in three things that are constant companions to them, such as the place of origin and dwelling, and the wife who is a constant companion in a life of ease, and the horse by which one lives, strives, and travels."

When a sacred text is revealed, a Muslim must believe what it contains. If one inquires about its wisdom, the inquiry should be one of seeking understanding, not one of objection.
