Is it permissible for a mature girl who recites the Quran proficiently to publish recordings of her recitations or Islamic songs with her voice on the internet, or to participate in Quranic competitions broadcast on television in front of men, while maintaining her covering?

It is impermissible for a woman to recite the Quran or chant in a manner that allows non-mahram (definition) men to hear her, through any medium, due to the forbidden 'softening of speech' (al-khudu' bil-qawl) involved. An exception to this is the recording of the entire Mushaf (definition), provided it is disseminated only among righteous and trustworthy women who are not likely to share it with men. This prohibition is supported by the disapproval of women performing the adhan (definition), and the permissibility for men to say 'Subhan Allah' (Glorified is Allah) and for women to clap during prayer, out of concern for the fitnah (temptation) caused by a woman's voice.
