Is it permissible to remove the niqab because it is burdensome at work, especially since it was worn at the husband's request and not out of personal desire?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on a woman covering her face, and the most preponderant opinion is that the niqab is obligatory. It is not permissible to remove the niqab and uncover the face in front of non-mahram (definition) men. However, it is permissible to uncover it in front of women and mahrams. It is advised to be patient and persistent in wearing the niqab when non-mahram men are present, as it is more pious, purer, and safer. If the niqab was previously worn for the sake of the husband, then the intention must be corrected to seek the Countenance of Allah through it.
