A woman is not permitted to travel except with a mahram (definition). This travel is not defined by a specific distance; rather, it encompasses everything that is considered travel, whether long or short, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "A woman shall not travel except with a mahram." The jurists have agreed on the prohibition of a woman traveling without a mahram, except in specific, exceptional cases, such as the obligatory Hajj with trusted companions. As for shortening prayers, breaking the fast during travel, and wiping over leather socks (khuffain), the majority of scholars define the distance as approximately 80 kilometers from the last houses of the town, while some refer it to common custom.
