What is the ruling on supplicating against a husband who wrongs his wife without just cause, gambles, is stingy with money, and does not work?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
It is permissible for a wife to supplicate against her oppressive husband, provided that her supplication does not exceed the extent of his injustice. It should be known that such a supplication is a form of victory for which Allah does not grant the reward of the patient. However, forgiving the oppressor is better, as Allah Almighty says: "And that you pardon is nearer to piety" (Quran 2:237), and His saying: "But whoever is patient and forgives, indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination" (Quran 42:43). Forgiveness was also the character of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
