The answer

Modern science has proven that flies carry both disease and cure, confirming the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If a fly falls into the drink of one of you, he should immerse it completely and then remove it, for in one of its wings there is a disease and in the other there is a cure." Studies have shown that flies carry harmful bacteria and antimicrobial substances, and that immersing the fly in a liquid allows the healing substances to act against the harmful bacteria. The presence of a cure does not necessarily mean encouraging Muslims to intentionally throw flies into food and drink; rather, it draws attention to the fact that for every disease there is a cure, and it encourages seeking treatment.
