The answer

The worker in a hospital or elsewhere is entrusted with what is under his hand, and he must preserve it. Whoever takes something without right or is negligent with it is liable for it. The expiation for someone who takes something to which he has no right is to return it to its owner if alive, or to his heirs if deceased. Giving its value in charity is not permissible as long as the owner or his heirs exist. The questioner must return the medicine he took to the hospital to clear his conscience. This is not considered ghulul (embezzlement from war spoils), for ghulul is taking something from the spoils before its distribution or betraying it before its acquisition.
